The Centerline team collaborating
Why Centerline

Thirty years. One specialty.

Centerline was founded in 1994 to do one thing well — behavioral health billing — and we've done nothing else since.

Centerline Medical Billing opened its doors in 1994. From the first claim we filed, we made a deliberate choice that still defines us: we bill for substance-abuse and mental-health facilities, and only for them. Three decades later, that focus has never wavered.

An advocate, not a clearinghouse

A clearinghouse passes claims through. We do the opposite — we stand between your facility and the payer, and we fight for what you've earned. That means reading the plan before admission, defending medical necessity through every level-of-care transition, and chasing the aged and denied claims other billers wrote off. When you call, a senior specialist who knows your facility answers — by name, not a ticket number.

Why behavioral health billing is its own discipline

Billing for a detox or residential program looks nothing like billing for a primary-care office. The rules are different, the denials are different, and the money at stake moves with the clinical story. We've spent thirty years inside that specialty:

  • Parity law. We hold payers to mental-health and addiction parity requirements instead of accepting the first denial.
  • Medical-necessity defense. Utilization review that documents and protects the clinical case for continued care.
  • SUD coding. Substance-use coding done by people who do it every day, not as an afterthought.
  • Level-of-care transitions. Detox, residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient — each handled so coverage follows the patient.

The people behind the work

Centerline is led by founders Patrick Mahoney, our CEO, and Gabe Hynes, our COO — joined by a senior in-house team of thirteen specialists. There is no offshore call center and no rotating cast of juniors. The same people who learned your facility's payers last year are the ones working your claims today, and they answer the phone when you need them.
